What is the cause of leakage in elbow quick-connect fittings?

There are many ways to connect pipes, and elbow quick-connect fittings are a very common type. They can be quickly connected and disassembled, and are suitable for connecting and disconnecting a variety of liquids and gases. However, sometimes leaks are found at the connection, which is very distressing. Next, let’s discuss the problem of leakage.

Before discussing the causes of leakage, it is necessary to understand the structure and working principle of the elbow joint.

The elbow joint consists of two parts: a pipe and a sleeve. There are sealing rubber rings on the inner walls of the pipe and the sleeve.

When the pipe is inserted into the sleeve, the rubber ring is squeezed, thus forming a tight seal. In this way, the pipe can be quickly connected. The structure is simple, easy to use, and no tools are required, and no adjustments are required during installation.

However, despite the many advantages of elbow quick-connect fittings, leakage still occurs. So, what is the cause of leakage?

One situation is that the sealing rubber ring is aged and failed. The sealing rubber ring is the core component of the elbow joint and plays a sealing role. After long-term use, the rubber ring will age and harden, lose elasticity, and crack, thus failing to achieve the sealing effect.

Another situation is improper installation. When installing the elbow joint, the pipe needs to be inserted along the axial direction of the sleeve. If it is not inserted properly, it is easy to leak. In addition, the cleanliness of the surface structure is also very critical. Dirt or grease on the surface will also affect the sealing effect of the elbow quick plug joint.

Another situation is excessive pressure. Elbow quick-plug connectors are suitable for a certain pressure range. Under long-term high pressure conditions, the rubber ring will deform, leading to leakage.

Of course, the above situations are not all the reasons for all elbow joint leakage. Some special situations, such as mismatched accessories, may also cause leakage.

What should you do when faced with a leak?

You can check whether the connection is loose or whether there is shrinkage in the casing. If this is the problem, just reinsert the pipe.

If the sealing rubber ring is found to be aging, it needs to be replaced in time. When replacing the sealing rubber ring, we need to choose products that meet the specifications and replace them strictly according to the requirements in the product manual.

In addition, the surface cleanliness and reasonable pressure range should be maintained to reduce the leakage of the elbow quick plug connector.

In the process of using elbow quick-connect fittings, some minor problems may cause unnecessary troubles, but we should actively face these problems and find solutions. You should know that in many cases, leakage is not a serious problem, and after paying attention to details, leakage can be quickly solved.
