Fittings can be used almost anywhere gases and liquids are used. Quick connect fittings are also used in reaction point-of-use systems. Quick connect fittings install directly into the system to make installation as simple as possible for residential users. Various manufacturers use quick connect fittings on products that move or filter water. These fittings are also suitable for pneumatic use with compressed air or gas. Make sure the chemical is compatible with the plastic material you use.
To install tubing into a quick-connect fitting, you must simply insert the tubing through the collet and O-ring into the fitting body. The trick is to make sure you have inserted the tubing all the way into the fitting. If you do not push the tubing past the O-ring on the inside of the fitting, you will get leaks because the O-ring is not sealing properly. One way to make sure the tubing is inserted all the way in is to mark the end of the tubing at about three-quarters of an inch. When you press the two pieces together, the three-quarters-inch line should disappear into the fitting.
When the tube is installed in the fitting, the collet grabs the tube with its teeth. This feature holds the tube in place so it won’t slip out. As you pull on the tube, the collet works against you and grips the tube more tightly. To release it, you must pull the collet down toward the fitting (to disengage its teeth from the tubing) and then pull the tubing away from the fitting. This simple process allows you to easily and quickly connect and release this fitting, allowing you to work quickly and stay productive.
